UPDATE: Senator Fred Akshar Endorsed by Business Groups, Labor and First responders |
Staying Open and Accessible
I've traveled thousands of miles over the last few months and visited every corner of the 52nd Senate District.
I believe the only way we're going to be successful as a community, is by working together and listening to stakeholders, to come up with common sense approaches that produce real tangible results. |
Fighting the Scourge of Heroin AddictionWe broke down barriers for those seeking help by ensuring easier access to treatment.
We made considerable investments in prevention and recovery efforts. We also hosted "Shed the Meds" prescription turn-in events and Narcan trainings across the 52nd District. |
Rebuilding Our EconomyI've met with business owners across the Southern Tier and I've heard over and over again that New York's taxes are too high and there are too many regulations.
This year I supported a historical tax cut for individuals and businesses alike. I also started the SD 52 Business Advisory Board, to help come up with ways New York State can be more helpful, to grow our current businesses and attract new ones. |
Supporting Our Schools
Since being elected, I've made it a priority to tour local schools and meet with teachers, faculty and students and listen to what's important to them.
During this year's budget I fought to get our upstate schools what they deserve. I'm happy to report schools will see a record $1.5 billion increase in aid in this year’s budget for a record total education investment of nearly $25 billion. We also fully and permanently eliminated the remaining of Gap Elimination Adjustment (GEA) cuts which will save money for school districts across New York. |
Committed to Integrity
When I was in the Broome County Sheriff’s Office, I was held to the highest ethical standard. I've worked to bring that attitude and integrity to Albany.
This year I supported and the legislature passed a joint resolution to strip pensions from corrupt government officials. Following a vote by the public on a constitutional amendment, elected officials and policymakers who commit a felony will no longer be eligible for pensions earned during public service. |
Advocating for Families
The commitment to our family is the most important commitment we make. I supported New Yorker's Paid Family Leave program to give everyone the freedom to spend time with a sick family member or bond with a new child.
I also supported implementing one of the largest tax cuts in New York's history. Millions of middle class New Yorker's will be eligible for the new tax cut that will bring middle class income taxes down to the lowest rate since 1948. By 2025 when the tax cut is fully phased in, families and small businesses will see an average savings of $700 per year. |
