Penny Stringfield, local addiction treatment services advocate: “When Fred got to Albany, Fred kept the promises he made to me-and others who have lost loved ones to an opioid overdose. There's no greater challenge and honor than to be in public service. There are some intangible things that cannot be bought or measured with money, and that is sincerity and integrity. Fred your heart is as big as an ocean and your faith in God is unmovable. My continual love, prayers and support are with you in this next chapter of your life. God bless you and all that are dear to you."
Phil Testa, former Director of Campus Operations at SUNY Broome and current Director of Maintenance at the YWCA: "I first met Fred when he was a Deputy at the Broome Sheriff’s Office and I was Director of Campus Operations for SUNY Broome. Together, we partnered on a new training facility for both the Sheriff’s deputies and students in the criminal justice program at SUNY Broome. Fred and I worked together to navigate several layers of red tape and lengthy procedure, but we got it done. Since then, our friendship has continued to grow, and Fred has always been upfront, forthright and honorable to work with. There isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for Fred Akshar and I know he’ll continue to do amazing work as our next Broome County Sheriff."
Don and Julie Faughnan: "When Fred first ran for Senate in 2015, we were happy to lend him our family's time and full support because we believed in him. During his tenure as Senator, he consistently fought for what was right for the Southern Tier and his honesty, integrity and dedication set him apart from other politicians. These are the qualities that you want in a Sheriff and we are certain that he will make an outstanding Broome County Sheriff. Please join our family in once again supporting Fred so he can continue making Broome County a great place to live."
John and Dawn Alfano, JADA Hill Farm: "Fred has been a great friend and supporter of ours and we're equally big fans of his. He has our family's full support and we wish him well as he pursues his next journey in public service."
Scott and Laura Glezen: “We’ve had the opportunity to know Fred Akshar personally and we appreciate his integrity, honesty, and ability to speak with firmness and kindness at the same time. Over the years, Fred has proven not only through his words, but also by his actions, that he has our community and families' safety and growth in his best interest. It takes a strong foundation to be able to take on what he does and he has that through his faith and the support of his wife, family, and friends. Knowing his character and family values, we believe he'll be a great Broome Sheriff to protect our families and continue to help lead our community.”
Juice and Maryann Horton: “When Juice was a little girl we met a young Sherriff standing in line for a slice of pizza. The two of them had a great conversation and an awesome friendship was started. Every time they saw each other since then Fred always took the time to visit with her. As time went on Fred became our Senator. He has always been a huge supporter of our special needs community. When he would come to any of the Special Olympic events the kids would go nuts. He took time to talk to each and everyone of the athletes and give them all encouragement to do their best. His kindness and compassion towards our kids is heartfelt. Fred sponsored a Resolution in Albany that made sure that March 21st would be known as World Down Syndrome Day in New York State. He invited Juice to come to Albany onto the Senate Floor as he spoke on the Resolution. Juice made red white and blue braided bracelets for every senator in the chamber. I really don't know who was happier, Fred for having her there or Juice just being there and giving out her bracelets. I truly believe that his love for his family and friends and his dedication to the people he serves will make him a great fit for Broome County Sheriff.”
Steve and Tara Busch, founders of Super Cooper Saves the Day: We support Fred because he is a man of integrity and honor. He keeps his promises. He promised us he would help us to honor our son Cooper and help keep his memory alive, and he has kept his promise time and time again. He comes to any event we put on and supports our non profit. He helped us build the Super Cooper Memorial Playground and he really got his hands dirty on that job!! Fred and his family have become part of our family and we know he’s the best choice to be our next Broome County Sheriff.
Paul and Ann VanSavage: “As a former office holder, Broome County Republican Chairman and longtime resident I care deeply about the safety and well-being of my friends and neighbors. There is no doubt in my mind that Fred will meet and exceed expectations at every level and has my full support."
Jack and Sally Colletti: “We met Fred in his first year as a Senator. Right from the start, he wanted to make a difference in the autism community. He made promises that he kept! Fred made sure we all knew that he served ALL of us, especially the most vulnerable. He was genuinely caring and protective. My son too knew Fred was the real deal - he takes the time to talk with him, laugh with him and shows his care. That's not politics. That's a person who care about my son and my family's well-being. We endorse Fred to be our next Broome County Sheriff.”
Dan and Carolyn Liddic: "We weren't active thinkers about our government until Fred ran for Senator. From his first day in office, he's put his constituents at the forefront of his actions. We very much appreciate his support of his community! He's down to earth and we really enjoy how he always makes it a priority to be a human first. He's a family man and isn't afraid of his faith - that's rare these days! We look forward to seeing him back in uniform as our next Sheriff!”
Laura and Todd Dancesia: “As our Senator, Fred has shown that he is a man of his word through his involvement and commitment to those he serves. He works extremely hard to keep our community safe, healthy, and happy. Fred has been a role model and a true inspiration to Caleb, our son, by his willingness to jump in and lend a hand and work along side others to make things happen. He has shown him how to be an active leader in our community. Fred has taught Caleb that through kindness and hard work you can change lives. We feel Fred will continue to dedicate himself to protect and support the families of Broome County as our next Sheriff.”
Mike Maione: “Community, community, community, that's what Fred has always stood for. I remember a few years ago, the Vestal Elks Lodge #2508 had dinners to go for local Veterans. Who was right there to lend a hand and help hand out the dinners? Fred and Jessica. They really care.”
Bob Seward: "I'm supporting Fred Akshar for Broome County Sheriff because of all the good work he has done for our community and county as Under Sheriff and Senator. He is honest and kind. He is the most logical choice as Broome County Sheriff. Thank you Fred for all you have done!"
Eric and Raeleen Emerick: “Fred has been an inspiration to our son, Eric Ethan. Although I myself not a political person as my husband , I have followed and supported Fred thru the eyes of our son. Fred has always expressed to Eric Ethan ‘Work Hard Dream Big.’ Fred has set a precedent. We appreciate you and ALL you continue to do for our youth, our families and our community. Our family supports Fred for Sheriff.”
Robert and Candace Blakeslee: "We’ve had the pleasure of meeting Fred 4 years ago when he and his office agreed to collaborate with a local agency of a national non-profit corporation to employ our son with a disability. Community Options and Fred allowed our son an opportunity to realize he can perform skills in his field of passion and contribute positively to society. Fred became a mentor to our son and went out of his way to learn about educational provisions for individuals with special needs to advocate for social justice and compassion on his behalf regardless of opposition or repercussions. No one before Fred has taken such risk for the dignity of our son. We never imagined anyone else showing the same level of concern as we do for own our child, until we experienced Fred’s valor on his behalf. Fred’s love for his family, compassion for people, law enforcement background, and role as NYS Senator demonstrate his commitment to the greater good and success of our community. He doesn’t work to boast, take control, and exclude or divide people. Instead, he promotes values and causes that would lead to a healthier, safer, welcoming, and productive community. Fred is a personable and down to Earth individual. He possesses unwavering bravery and honorable standards of humanity. We are confident he would continue to humbly and successfully serve our community well as Broome County Sheriff."

River of Life Ministries Bishop Mario D. Williams and First Lady Rene Williams: "What a privilege and honor to show my support for my friend, Senator Fred Akshar. The right job for the right man. To Jessica you have to be so Godly proud of the commitment and dedication of your husband to this community and the State of New York.
